The follow-up of Liposuction

1. Before the operation, you should purchase compression garments for the corresponding areas which you will wear directly after the operation. Depending on the circumstances, they will need to be worn for 3 to 6 weeks after the operation.
2. In the first few days after the operation, ice packs will help keep down swelling. They should not be placed directly on your skin!
3. In the first weeks following the surgery, you will have to have patience. You will soon see a clear difference, yet the final result will not be visible until at least 6 weeks after the operation when the swelling has subsided.
4. Take all medication prescribed according to the doctor’s directions.
5. Minor pain, burning and numb sensations in the region of the operation will disappear within a few days. Pain killers will be prescribed for post-operative pain.
6. The stitches will be removed after about 10 days.
7. You should move around as soon as possible. When you stand up and walk, you reduce the swelling and the possibility of blood-clotting in your legs.
8. In the first four weeks after the operation, you should avoid any strenuous physical activity. The question as to when you can return to work depends on your job.
9. You are allowed to begin showering on the third day.
10. Special ointments, cream or bandages can be applied for swelling or bruising. Such symptoms usually disappear within the first two weeks. In the summertime some people tend to swell more than others, a condition that could continue for several months.
11. Anti-cellulite products may only be applied to the incisions when they have fully healed.
