After Surgery

In the first few days after surgery, cooling compresses will help keep swelling down, as your breasts will be very sensitive during this time. Discomfort in the wound area is normal. Your doctor will prescribe painkillers for the post-op pain. If you should feel any sudden pain or other symptoms, please contact your doctor immediately. Any other questions you may have can be cleared up by talking to your doctor. The healing process is monitored at regular intervals. The drainage tubes will be removed several days after surgery. Stitches will be removed within the first three weeks.
After several days the bandages may be removed. You can speed up the healing process and the final result if you wear a snugly fitting bra for 3 – 6 weeks after the operation.

Bruising and swelling will mainly subside within the first two weeks. Some patients have longer periods of swelling, especially in hotter weather it is not uncommon to have swelling for several months.
In the first four weeks after the operation, you should avoid any strenuous physical activity. Please do not lift any heavy objects during this time, or raise your arms above your shoulders, otherwise the tension on your scars may considerably hinder the healing process. It is best to discuss when you can resume work or your daily activities with your surgeon.
Your breasts will be very sensitive to pressure at first. As a rule, this passes at the latest three to four weeks after surgery.
As soon as the drainage tubes are removed you may start to shower, taking warm baths that cover your breasts should be avoided in the first several weeks. Your doctor can recommend what type of skin lotion you can apply. It can make sense to use special ointments or creams in the case of swelling and bruising.
After several days you will be able to see the first impression of your newly shaped breasts. The final result will first be visible three to six months after the operation. Your doctor will be careful to make the scars as thin and inconspicuous as possible, however they can not be fully avoided. In some cases it may be necessary to improve the results through further surgery.
Breast reduction will change your appearance and the way your body feels. After breast reduction, most women are very satisfied with the result of their surgery and enjoy their new appearance. The patients report a higher energy level and increased vitality.
